MATERIALS USED

Acacia

Dark and dense with a fine finish

Ash

A very white timber with a bold, distinctive figure

Banksia nut

Hard, solid cones whose seed pods create a distinctive and unusual look. (Australian)

                                 

Beech

Very straight-grained with distinctive dark brown flecks

Bubinga

A dark and dense wood with a pungent smell when cutting - beautiful finish

Elm

Grey to light brown with a strong irregular grain pattern

Eucalyptus

Light brown with a gentle grain movement

Goldfield Burr

An Australian Burr with a dark and golden finsh. Very hard

Grass tree root

The root of an Australian lily.  Can range in colour from dark brown to a greenish yellow

                          

Oak

                  

Heavy and strong.  Oak works well and has a naturally coarse texture when finished

Olive

A colorful hardwood. It is strong, heavy and marbled in appearanceand gives a beautiful finish

Spalted Beech

Beech wood with black fungus lines running through

Walnut

Light grey-brown with beautifully figured, irregular streaks

                      

Yew

A very attractive wood with golden orange heartwood and contrasting,
pale yellow sapwood

                       

Juniper  

Not particularly common - mostly found in Oregon, quite soft, normally used for
constructional work, but in my work displays quite a nicely marked annula ring
.
